  1. I generally use virtualdub for the sound and tmpgenc for the video. Works great 95% of the time thanx to the awesome tutorials and help found on this site. My problem is when the sound does not match the video or the sound needed special attention like AC3 for example, I can only discover this after burning, and of course wasting a dvd. Is there a way to preview before burning? I burn using tmpgenc dvd author.

    Thanx

Most dvd burners ship with player software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. If not, mediaplayer classic might be an option.

  3. Sorry I should have been more specific. The folder created by tmpgenc now contains a separate video and sound file. I can check the video OR the sound but not both together to make sure they match. I'm trying to figure out if this can be done.

    Thanx

How about you mux the audio and video and then play the mpg file ?

Thats what happens in my house.

Just to offer a point of interest that I was surprised to find. Media Player Classic will do exactly what you are asking. If you open the m2v file it will auto play the associated audio file in the same folder (as long as it is simillarly named). I do agree with guns1inger in that the elementary streams will not be of much use for predicting end of the process synchronization, but if you just want to view the files with sound it is not necessary to mux them.

The best way to test is to author and burn to a DVD-RW or DVD+RW and play it back in a DVD player hooked up to a TV.
