  1. i was reading about WMV HD and i am quite impressed with it. my question is how do i transfer the HD signal from my computer to my HDTV. i don't have component outputs on my PC. is there some sore of card or cable i can purchase to do this? also, would it allow me to have my monitor plugged in at the same time as my HDTV? and lastly, can you point me in a direction to buy something like this? thanks for your answers

Unless you want the supernerd answer, easiest solution is to buy a dual head ATI AIW (AIW-9600XT has 2 VGA) then use the ATI VGA to Y,Pb,Pr adapter to interface the TV. Set HDTV as your second monitor and play the WMV-HD there (typ 1080i mode). It will look better if your TV supports 720P but most don't.

Once you have that set up, you could also add an off air DTV tuner to the PC and play that back to the external HDTV as well.

Supernerd answer envolves using Powerstrip software to configure custom scan rates from a normal NVidia or Radeon dual head card. If you are nerdy enough you can figuer it out from that clue. Warning, you can damage your HDTV with incorrect scan rates.

Is it possible to play WMV HD files with a DVD player with HDMI output conect to the TV in HD?

Or does the player downscale the files and then upscape them again, what sounds pretty stupid.
