why would a DVD+R play sometimes on my stand alone DVD player?

Any ideas why I can play some burned DVD+R (Memorex 4x) discs one day on my Samsung DVD S222 player and then not on other days?

The discs play well on other DVD players at work or on my PC.

I would have thought that it would either play all of the time or none of the time.

Is there something that I could do to fix this, can you do a firmware upgrade on standalone players?

I had a similar intermittant play problem with a Philips 75.
I never cured it, but, I did discovered that it's ability to play
problem disks decreased with warm up time.
After about a 45 min warm-up time it would again play ALL problem disks.
You might try giving it a bit of a warm-up first.

(I figured my problem was either the dye on that brand or the laser
slowly wearing out)

Never tried that but worth a shot. Although my 5 year olds may not be as patient
