mpgs i created by TMPGEnc not playing in DivX?

i converted an avi to mpeg using TMPGEnc. i tried playing the file in both DivX Player and WinAmp but neither would play the file. at first i thought nothing of it so i tried to burn it anyway using TMPGEnc DVD Author. around 86% into the burning process i get "Writing error" with no further explanation.

DivX Player does play mpeg-2 files right? im lost here.. wtf is going wrong? i dont want to waste another dvd-r. do you think the problem is in the conversion process or is it an issue with TDA? i tried reinstalling TMPGEnc but the mpgs it creates still wont play in DivX Player. any ideas?

Check that you have the latest version of divx player .... also that you have the correct codecs .... better still install power dvd ... it will play mpegs created by tmpgenc ... for some reason winamp will not play mpegs that tmpgenc creates ... i always play mine in power dvd altho i've just tried one in divx player and it works in that too (i have latest version)
