I have a movie named Memento in Divx format which playes just fine on my computer but when I try to play it on my DVD player Philips DVP 5500S I face a problem of audio sync, now with a small reasearch in the forums I came to know that audio compressed in MP3 VBR format does not play in sync in some DVD players and so you have to convert them to CBR. I tried all possible ways explained in the forums including extracting the audio in wave and then reinserting it in to the video file or just converting the audio into MP3 CBR and then reinserting, but all in vain, doesnt work, infact it deteriorates the situation and audio lag is more. I even tried the Audio skew correction with different values (positive and negetive) but didnt work. I am tired of experimenting. Now incidently I got two more movies both also having audio in VBR but they just played fine on my player, the difference was both were in Xvid format while movie Memento was in Divx, does that make any difference, would converting the movie from Divx to Xvid solve the problem, I am in a fix help me out please. Thank you all in advance.

Try using ConvertX to DVD. It can handle most files you throw at it.
Good Luck....Have yer paid your dues Jack??

Re-encode from the original Memento files to Divx again - this time choosing CBR MP3 audio.
Or you could re-do it, but choose the Xvid codec.
While it's frustrating to start again, it often turns out to be the quickest way. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Yeah - Don't be a cheapskate and buy the original. What's the cost of a DVD versus the value of your time screwing around trying to get an illegal file to play properly?Originally Posted by sam9s

Now now ... it might not be this version of Memento or any of these. It may be any of these

Any of these variants may or may not be available on DVD and may or may not be public domain
If in doubt, Google it.

Well I dont have the original DVD for any of the movies. What do you want me to use convertx for, to convert from Divx to Xvid or from DVD to Xvid, I cannt do the latter because as I mentioned I do not have the original DVD with me.Originally Posted by GhostRider_71C2D 6300@3.21Ghz|Vista Ultimate x64|P5B-Dlx Wifi|Transcend 4 GB 800 Mhz|XFX 8800GT 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition|Samsung 19" 940BW|1.5 TeraByte Storage|ASUS SATA DVDRW|Altec Lansing ATP5|APC 800 Smart UPS.

Dude, convertxtodvd outputs DVD format; we are talking about a DVD player that plays XVID and DivX as AVI files here, and as such, that software isn't going to help muchOriginally Posted by GhostRider_71
If in doubt, Google it.

ConvertX to DVD would solve the problem by you being able to watch the file on your TV Via a dvd player. Instead of having to watch it on your computer screen.

What make you think its an illegal file, my friend has a collection of DVDs and he converted the movie to Divx for me when he came to visit me. He lives far down south so I cannt reach him now. More over Movies like Memento, and the other two I was talking about in Xvid are Apocalypse Now and American History X, there movies are very rare to find here in India, My friend down south also got it from abroad, and lastly the question was more so to gain knowldge which you obviously dont have otherwise you would have given a sensible response.Originally Posted by daamonC2D 6300@3.21Ghz|Vista Ultimate x64|P5B-Dlx Wifi|Transcend 4 GB 800 Mhz|XFX 8800GT 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition|Samsung 19" 940BW|1.5 TeraByte Storage|ASUS SATA DVDRW|Altec Lansing ATP5|APC 800 Smart UPS.

Sam9s said he/she was having audio sync problems converting the divx file to play on his divx capable machine. So why not convert it to DVD and then watch the file on his divx capable machine with no problems. The end goal is to watch the file on his TV!!!!!

What are you talking about I dont understand, I am using my DVD player to watch the movie on the TV screen its just that the file is in Divx n Xvid format and not the usual DVD media. The problem is something else here.Originally Posted by GhostRider_71C2D 6300@3.21Ghz|Vista Ultimate x64|P5B-Dlx Wifi|Transcend 4 GB 800 Mhz|XFX 8800GT 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition|Samsung 19" 940BW|1.5 TeraByte Storage|ASUS SATA DVDRW|Altec Lansing ATP5|APC 800 Smart UPS.

Oh .... and for the OP:
I'd install the lame MP3 ACM (you might need to google it), then use virtualdub to open the Divx file, go to Video > Direct Stream Copy, Audio > Full Processing, Audio > Compression and choose Lame Mp3 and 44,100Hz 128kbps. Then go to File > Save AVI and it will save you a new file with video untouched and CBR MP3 audio. If you want to convert to XVID I'd use AutoGK and select CBr MP3 128kbps in the Advanced Options. If in doubt, Google it.

Yea the end goal is to watch the movie in the TV screen but my other goal also is to learn the true concept behing encoading and VBR n CBR thing and what went wrong and how we can solve it after all thats what we open a question and discuess it in a forum........to get the solution and gain knowldge rightOriginally Posted by GhostRider_71C2D 6300@3.21Ghz|Vista Ultimate x64|P5B-Dlx Wifi|Transcend 4 GB 800 Mhz|XFX 8800GT 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition|Samsung 19" 940BW|1.5 TeraByte Storage|ASUS SATA DVDRW|Altec Lansing ATP5|APC 800 Smart UPS.

Nope it didnt work, though the audio was successfully converted to 128 Kbps CBR, I checked using Gspot but still audio lag was there, infact after re saving the file even my PC showed the lag. Guess I have to convert it to usual DVD of I will try Xvid, I am so tired any of it works I will be happy. Thanks for the guidence bro.....Originally Posted by jimmalenkoC2D 6300@3.21Ghz|Vista Ultimate x64|P5B-Dlx Wifi|Transcend 4 GB 800 Mhz|XFX 8800GT 512 MB Alpha Dog Edition|Samsung 19" 940BW|1.5 TeraByte Storage|ASUS SATA DVDRW|Altec Lansing ATP5|APC 800 Smart UPS.

Go back to virtualdub, and go to audio > interleaving. Here you can set a delay or gain on the audio to attempt to bring the audio back into sync.
If in doubt, Google it.
