  1. Hi Folks

First off Im not a programmer in any real sense of the word. I do ,however, author DVDs with Scenarist and am pretty good at it.

Now with the advent of HD & Blu-ray specs I'm forced to learn Java scripting and/or XML.

Anyone have links, books or partical work that might be helpful.

    Words of encouragement perhaps

  2. I missed the connection between the advent of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray and how that causes you to need to learn Visual Basic and Java scripting. But I guess that's really none of my business.

I imagine that an internet search for books on those two subjects would turn something up. There should be no shortage of such documentation. Sorry I can't be more helpful without actually doing the search for you.

One suggestion might be MSDN online. There are examples you can work with, and you can still download the Express edition of VB.NET and C# for free to work with the examples.

Because the Extended Interactivity version on BD is based on Java (not Javascript though??) and the Extended Interactivity version of HD-DVD is based on XML.

    Not a bad question actually.

Pick up some books at the local and/or college library, or get some from a bookstore (Borders, etc)

However, you'll need to get a version of Scenarist that supports one of those before you'll be able to get familiar with the specific subset of calls that are ALLOWABLE for those discs.
