  1. FFmpegX 9w here. I'm attempting to encode an .avi source to essentially the same with the addition of hardcoded subs (STR file). Using either the mpeg4 [.avi] or xvid [.avi] mencoder options the resultant file doesn't contain the subs in question.

Prior to encoding, with the .srt loaded from the filers pane, clicking preview has them showing up clearly. They also show perfectly with mplayer. Any easy remedy I'm overlooking here? TIA

Prior versions required that you subtitute the mencoder from 9s in order to embed subs. Do a search in this forum and you'll find the exact reference. However, that assumes 9w didn't fix the problem. Perhaps major will chime in soon.

  3. It appears as if this particular .srt might be the problem in question. I recall mencoder from 9s helping font size/position problems etc., but I wasn't sure it would be applicable to this. Regardless, the issue replicates even after downgrading to version 9t r4 with the 9s binaries. I've just tested 2 other .avi / .srt combos and it hardcodes as expected. Hmm.

  4. The current mencoder build should encode srt, though ignoring size and font, as per bug in mencoder subtitle core.

So we'll still need to keep the older mencoder (for 9s) for when we want to embed with altered font/size?

Is there anything bad about using this older mencoder with 9w?

  6. Correct. It's my understanding that if you'd care to hardcode using a specific font, or resize any font, you'll need the older mencoder for 9s.

However, I don't believe it's compatible with 9w seeing as how the current version calls for a universal binary version of mencoder. This is why I downgraded to 9t r4 and swaped binaries in a failed attempt to solve my issue with the problem .str file.

  7. 0.0.9w should work with the older binary (though of course it will be slower as it will run in Rosetta).

  8. Thanks for the clarification Major.
