  1. I saw this post somewhere but did a search and could not locate it. My re-authored DVD works on my player but not on friend's player. I remember that you need to use UDF in Nero but need a step by step explanation.

    Thank you in advance.

That it works in your player would suggest that the disc is OK, and that the issue may lie elsewhere.

What happens when you try to play it in your friend's player ?
Have you tried it in other players ?

It could be that your friend's player doesn't like writable discs, or this particular brand of disc. Maybe it likes +R discs and this is a -R.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a universally playable writable disc. There are simply too many factors to be able to guarantee an outcome.

  3. I remember reading here that you need to use UDF mode when burning with Nero. I need step by step info on this. My friend's player doesn't recognize the disc. On some discs it plays but then freezes. On others it says can't read disc or disc error. I saw, maybe a week ago the fix to this but I didn't copy or write it down. When I use Nero in DVD UDF mode is says the disc won't play in stand alone players.

    Any help would be apreciated.

Open the Burning Rom component of Nero. Select the DVD Video template. Nero will have already added the video_ts and audio_ts folders for you. Put the contents of your reauthored video_ts folder into the video_ts folder in the Nero template. Burn the disc.

That is all there is to it. The symptoms sound more like crap discs than format problems.

Another thing worth doing. Use Nero Speed Disc or DVD Info Pro to do a read test on the disc once you finish burning. I test every disc before it leaves my machine. If you get any errors, toss the disc.

What brand of media are you using ?

Use ImgTool Classic if you need to make an ISO IMAGE file from a VIDEO_TS folder.

Then burn the ISO IMAGE file using ImgBurn.

Or ... you can take your DVD and rip it using DVD Decrypter in ISO READ MODE then burn using ImgBurn.

Don't use Nero for DVD Video burning.

  6. I am using RiData 16X (DVD-R) White Printable DVDs. I've been burning 1000's of DVDs for a while with no problems but its just on this one friends player(s) they don't work. He has an APEX I believe and also in doesn't work on his Playstation.

The process i am using doesn't seem to be the problem as I have tried the burnt DVDs on many other players with no problems. I will try the ways that have been explained to see if this way works.

I just remember reading here that some older players need to be burned using what i thought was UDF mode. I may be wrong here. It may have been another type of ISO mode. This is where I need the help.

    Thanks again.

Some older players might require the disc to be BITSET to read +R discs. The bitsetting process makes the +R disc look like a DVD-ROM format to older players.

Some DVD burners can do bitsetting and some do not. The nice thing is that it can be done after the burning process. The bad thing is ... not that many DVD burners support bitsetting.

If your DVD burner is capable of doing it then it can be done using the most current version of ImgBurn which again is freeware.

In the future you would be better off using DVD-R media as opposed to DVD+R media.

    P.S.
Bitsetting is only for DVD+R type discs and does not apply to DVD-R discs.
