    HI,

I captured a movie from cable tv with my computer. I am trying to cut out the commercials with virtualdub. I am using virtualdub version 1.6.14. I find a commercial and I go to the first part of the commercial and I click home then I go to the end of the commercial and hit end then delete and I play the avi and it cut out the commercial I am able to see. Then I tell the video to go to direct stream copy and then go to file and save as avi and it save my avi, however, the last 86 frams are still the the saved avi from where I hit end? How do I cut the whole commercial out where I pick? Please and thank you!

    Thank you!

    HAPPY EASTER!

    Hi,

Thanks for replying to my message. I went to the message you shared with me and I do not really understand it. It said something about holding the shift key down and I did that and it does nothing?

Hold the shift key while scrolling through the video and it will move from key frame to key frame, or use the gold key frame buttons.

    Hi,

I tried to use the gold keyes on virtuldub and where I want to press end is not where the gold key is, however, where I push home is not where the gold keys are either and yet it still cuts the avi right where I want. It is just where I press end it does not cut where I want, it just cuts where the gold keys are instead? I used virtualdub to cut out commercials with another capture avi also it worked perfect, however, I did use different codec though, would that make a difference? Is there a better program that would cut the out the commericals where I want?

    Thanks!

When you open the video in VirtualDub, look to 'File>File Information' and you will see the number of keyframes. You can only cut on the keyframes. Xvid or Divx may only have a keyframe every 300 frames while DV has them for every frame. If they are spaced far apart, then frame accurate editing is hard. Divx or Xvid are often not good formats for editing because of this.

You can use full processing mode and cut anywhere you want. Be sure to select some compression type or it will save as a very large uncompressed file. This method is slower and causes some quality loss.
