dump question, my asus P5LD does not have a fire wire header rendering my firewire port on the front of my case useless. does anyone know if someone makes a PCI express card with a motherboard style header on it?? or, does anyone know if that plug will fit directly into my soundblaster X-FI sound card. it is a 9 pin syle plug that belongs on a MB.

or, is the a cable that will plug into the nine pin on one end, and then have regular fire wire on the other end????

    thanks for you help----DL

    Dammit people do some research!

I googled: firewire card 9 pin connector

And came up with this card:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=firewire+card+9+pin+connector&btnG=Google+Search

SIIG is a good manufacturer, I have used them before. The downside is it's not a PCI express card. Not sure if you can use it. I would assume your motherboard has at least one regular PCI slot - unless you are already using it.

If you're soundcard has a firewire 9 pin connector on it, then try it and see. It should work.

    :P

  4. Have you tried your soundcard? You mentioned it had a firewire connector on it.

I did another search on pci-express and came up empty. you'll find plenty of pci-express firewire cards but none that has an internal 9 pin connector for a computer case.

NOTE: Firewire 800/b is a 9 pin port, as opposed to Firewire 400/a which is either 6 pin or 4 pin. Do not confuse that with a connector to use with a computer case.

  6. You can buy a 4 or 6 pin cable and just modify the cables, since the 9 pin connections is backward compatible to 6 pin ( 6 pin is compatible to 4 pin/sground) and only added additional ground (TPA gnd, and TPB gnd) to ensure good highspeed transfer, which can be ignored for non-800/b applications. Get a 9 or 10 pin header housing ( less than a dollar ), and use a small screw driver to get all the pins out from a 4 or 6 pins header, and just pick the same signal pin into the 9/10 pin header.

Or you can just get a pci based firewire card with cable for $20.00.
