Installing the subtitles on your xvid movie?

Hi guys, I Got Godfather 2 the movie in Xvid format. It doesn't have the subtitles already in the xvid movie, however, I do have a bunch of files that has IDX and SUB files. Anyone know how to integrate it to your already xvid format? Thanks a lot...

Please remove the name of the movie or else you'll be modded for piracy.

IDX/SUB are for DVD authoring. You need to convert those to SRT or similar in order to incorporate them into AVI's.

Ok, how do you incorparate them into the avi files if you have the SRT files?

VDubMod, load the AVI, add the SRT to the stream list, do the quick stream copy to another file. (At least I *think* that's how it's done...)

That would only work if you have output set to ogm or mkv. To mux subs to avi, you would need AVI-Mux GUI. Only real advantage is that you only have one file. The disadvantage is that it is less compatible, so really you are better leaving the subtitles external.

If by integrate you meant hard encode. This requires re-encoding and VOBSub's are ok, no need to OCR.

Nah, you can play them as is. You just have to have DirectVobSub installed (comes in the VobSub package). Then make sure the name of the subs is the same as that of the movie (Movie.avi, Movie.idx, and Movie.sub). Then play the movie. If a curved green arrow shows up in the Sys Tray, then it's working.

How do you get the green system tray to show up? I downloaded VOBsub like you recommended, installed it, and the program shortcuts are all in my start menu, now what do I do? I plan to play the files with VLC, can the method you recommend work with VLC? Thanks...

Nevermind, I figured it out. All I had to do was install VOBsub, and put all the AVI files with the subtitle files in the same folder or directory and then just double click on it. VLC has all the Subtitle tracks listed! It was that simple! Never thought that subtitles can integrate with the AVI files like that so easily.

VLC has its own subtitle renderer indipendant of directvobsub. It should have worked fine before installing VOBSub.

You know what, strangely enough VLC did not work the second time. The first time I put all the files in one directory including all the subtitle files, installed VOBsub, double clicked on the movie, and then clicked on Video, then Video Tracks, then of course selected english. The second time around, I clicked on Video again and the Video Track option wasn't there. But if I were to play it with Windows Media player, then the little half circled green arrow showed up on my sys tray. That one works fine if i were to play it in media player. But I wonder why VLC did not work again. hmmm...

Yeah, I don't have much luck with VLC and subs either. Seems a little quirky or something. Or maybe my version is old. I use Media Player Classic.

I presume you've managed to rip these from the Godfather 2 DVD that you own, but dont know what to do with it?

That is correct, ripped with dvd decrypter, encoded with AutoGK and Demuxed with my own Godfather 2 DVD.

Is it only for computer playback, then Direct VobSub and any DirectShow based player (like even WMP) should do.
For standalone DivX player playback, you mostly have to convert Sub/idx to .srt
Just make sure all files have the same name (xyx.avi, xyz.srt, xyz.idx, xyz.sub and are in the same dir)
