    Hello

I have the Pioneer DVR-531H-s DVD recorder and I've been using Maxell 2x DVD-RW discs and they have been working well for me (the media ID = OPTODISCW002).

However according to the back of the Pioneer manual the DVR-531H-s can handle 4x DVD-RW and even 6x DVD-RW discs.

Yet I can't find any 6x DVD-RW at all and the only 4x DVD-RW I can find is Ritek and I don't trust those. I've never been a Ritek fan.

I should point out that the DVR-531H-s manual says that the unit is compatable with the following 6x DVD-RW discs:

    JVC - Media ID = JVC1Victord7
    MCC (MKM) - Media ID = MKM01RW6x

I've written that exactly as it appears in the manual. As far as I can see it makes no mention of any "special suggestions" when it comes to 4x DVD-RW discs.

    Here is the media code,

If they work for you ... with the same equipment ... that makes me happy

In other words I will have to try them ... just have to find them now. I have no clue what Microcenter is ... must not be in my region as I have never heard of that store before.

Have you seen them elsewhere? The 3 big stores in my region would be Best Buy, Circuit City and CompUSA. I also got places like Walmart, Target and K-mart plus Sears. That's about it though. No Microcenter nor this Fry's everyone seems to metion all the time.

  4. It is a chain store but the stores are more the size of Compusa stores. Here is a store locator. I use the TDK's almost exclusively for tranferring from the 531H to the computer for use with DVD Author.

For the ES10 I use dvd-ram now since I bought a Sony DRU-820A drive. It can read X3 dvd-ram at X5. That was a surprise since the box says the transfer rate is 33 Mbs which is X3.

P.S. I think I have seen these disks at Circuit City but do not remember the price.

Well no wonder I never heard of Microcenter ... there is only one in my state and using MapQuest I found that it is 296.96 miles away from me! LOL

Apparently they do mail order and I think I found the TDK 4x DVD-RW discs you speak of:

Before I pay almost double thanks to shipping I'll look for them at some local stores. At least I know now what to look for so for that I thank you.

  6. That is a long drive! Yes those are the disks. I would call up Circuit City. They do not show that they carry them online, but I think I saw them in their store. It is not in the regular dvd media section, but in the section near cameras where they sell VHS tape.
