+RW wierdness when trying to do a test burn, any ideas?

Hi,
I did a couple of test burns on a +RW disc and my standalone player went nuts with it. The booktype is DVD-Rom. When I insert the disc it starts playing and it appears you can fast forward/rewind etc, but if you hit stop and then hit play again the player locks up. You can hear sounds that sound like what you hear when you change a chapter sort of. None of the remote or front panel buttons respond. The only way to regain control is to turn off the surge suppressor and then turn it back on.

I found a copy of the player manual on my hard drive and it says the player won't play DVD-Rom, +RW, -RW .... Every commercial DVD I've checked shows up with a booktype of DVD-Rom and I've never had one that wouldn't play. I don't see how it can't play DVD-Rom discs when all the commercial ones have that booktype.

Is it a good bet my problem is the +RW disc and not the booktype? I burned the same project to -R and +RW and the -R played no problem.

It may have nothing to do with booksetting. DVDRWs are less reflective than DVDRs, and a lot of DVD players won't play the rewritables.

My new DVD player won't play bitset RW's....but it will play normal RW's...strange but true.

Mine in unheard of in America. Thomson DTH213....damn good converting DVD player though...true conversions too....not that quasi crap.(though it does that pretty well too)...
Plays almost everything I've thrown at it except bitset RW's.....
