    Hi All,

I am having a problem with my Sony DCR-TRV18E camera in not being able to capture video onto my hard drive. My PC does not recognise the video camera as a device when using a firewire cable. If I use a USB cable, it will recognise the video camera fine.

Below is a list of things that I have already tried to resolve the problem with no success.

*Connecting the camera to an Ibook (Mac)
    *Using a different firewire cable
*Using an alternative firewire port on the PC
*Uninstalling and reinstalling the IEEE 1394 Host adaptor from Windows Device Manager
    *Disabling the 1394 Net Adapter
*Ensuring that the time/date on the video camera is correct (I read that this can cause problems)
*Searched Google and this forum for a solution

The below problem solving tasks proved successful

*Connecting a different device (Sony external DVD burner) to the PC using two different firewire cables
*Connecting a different video camera to my pc
*Ensuring the the display on the LCD screen of the camera reads 'DV In' when the firewire cable is pluged into it.

Combining the successful and unsuccessful tells me that there is a problem with the camera.

Has anyone had a similar problem that they were able to rectify? I am hoping it is a simple setting somewhere in the menu of the camera that I have overlooked. Might be wishful thinking.

Looking forward to any replies and thanks in advance.

Use FireWire to transfer the DV as a file to your PC. Use USB to do capturing with your camcorder as a capture device.

If you shoot your video directly you can use FireWire to transfer the video as a file to your PC. If you want to use your camcorder as a capture device, use USB and your camcorder's capture software.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers!
