Trouble with MPEG's from Tivo - TMPG and Encore

OK, I have MPEG's that I copied from Tivo using Tivo2Go. The video and sound are synched fine at this point, no problem. I edit them with no problems using MPEG2VCR.

After using DVDPatcher to patch them to 720x480, I can import them into Encore or TMPG Author. Herein lies the problems:

With Encore, I cannot view the video at all to add chapter points. It simply locks up. I can burn the DVD with menus and have no audio / video syncing issues, but I can't have chapter points.

With TMPG Author, I can add chapter points and menus, but towards the end of the DVDs, the audio and video are slightly out of sync.

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks!

Have you tried reencoding them with another program? Like tmpgenc? (the conversion software not the authoring package?).

What was the original resolution of the imported files?

The original resolution is 480x480, which is what Tivo records in. How would I go about reecoding? I haven't had to do that yet.

480x480 is svcd resolution. You can load that into tmpgenc or another program. Load the dvd template and make sure its 720x480. It will do the rest.

Thanks yoda. I see that DVD Lab takes the video no problem, however, I am having another audio sync issue now. I have a thread opened in the audio forum for that if you want to take a crack at it.

This may be just plain old blink luck but my Tivo-to-go transfers come over at 720 x 480 w/ac3 audio. Once I run them through Direct Show Dump Utility I can imported them directly into TDA, even on the same track as video ripped from TIVO DVD-RW write to PC rip.

I keep reading that others are getting 480 x 480 in their TIVO-to-go transfers. Is this TIVO player specific (I have a Humax DRT800) or is there some setting that by pure luck that is set to 720 x 480 on my player?

This is wild speculation, but is it because your unit has a DVD burner in it that the resolution is that way? I have a normal Series 2 Tivo, and the resolution is 480x480.

Not sure. I guess the only way to find out is record a "best quality" show that is a couple of hours long and try to convert it.

I usually record at the next to the best setting. Sometime I record at the best setting (for shows that have started when I decide to record). Both come across as 720 x 480.

kosarx, I think you're right that I get 720 x 480 because my TIVO series 2 has a DVD writer
