    Hi!

Been searching the site and other sites for quite a few days now. I would like to know whether the new pioneer 111 is riplocked or not?

My old dvdwriter 105 was riplocked. I upgraded to the new 110 a few weeks back but never bothered to check it. I just assumed all dvdwriters would be riplocked. I was astonished to find that it's not. I would prefer the new 111 for my second pc and as has faster DVD-RAM reading speeds and I use RAM a lot.

Any websites or lists out there with a list of dvd-writers and they riplock status? If not this could be a usefull addition to the dvdwriters list on the left.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. The Pioneer 111D and 111 are locked at 5X for DL pressed DVDs. Most NEC and LG drives are as well. In the past, crossflashing the 111 to the XL firmware allowed increaded ripping; it has not been tested yet for the 111, that I have seen.

Most Liteon and BenQ drives have no problem with fast ripping and both have patches available to increase these speeds to the 14X area.

    See Cdfreaks.com
Still a few bugs in the system...

Do ya happen to know whether or not the Lite-On 165P6S is riplocked with official f/w? I do not see any patches for the 6 series drives. Not trying to threadjack, just looking for the ultimate reader/scanner for ripping/testing purposes below $40.

Riplock is built into a drives firmware to prevent it from reading a dvd video greater than what they decided to limit it to. For example, single layer media could be read as slow as 5X with riplock or as high as 16X without it.

Mine hits 13X with no problem with the Liteon test firmware (fixes -R lead-in problems). I would think MS0M is fast as well.
