Can you tell me please is it possible that a standalone DVD recorder (not an external pc drive) can write computer data backup sent from a computer through a firewire?
Or a dvd recorder would accept only video through firewire?
or are there maybe any standalone dvd recorders that have usb so they can be used as hybrid machines? (pc and video)
so far i haven't heard about anything like that
Thank you.

While I can't prove a negative, I will opine that it's quite unlikely you'll find any of the DVD recorders will accept anything but DV-Stream via the FireWire port. Remember that, even if it could, the DVD-R/RW/RAM (whatever disc) is being written with data assuming it is video and formatting the files accordingly. Care to guess how to decode a VOB back into your Excel files?
