  1. Hi everyone,

Are there any news on premium grade printable DVD-R DL coming out soon? I realize the Ridata has them now, but given their track record lately, I'm too lerry to try them.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Get the Ri-Data. They are cheap, quality made, and reliable.

Which is why I'll pass on double/dual layer and wait for blu-ray or hd-dvd. Also, I talked to a Verbatim insider who told me that there are so many incompatibilities between recorders, players and discs today that the media itself will soon be long gone as an option at all.

You can tell the verbatim insider that most people who buy DL discs today do so for computer use only. Very few people use them for what you see at this site.

  7. I have actually never used +R, single layer or otherwise, ever. My standalone players seems to be very happy with single layer -R discs, so I want to stick with -R as long as possible. Blu-ray or HD-DVD all require investment of new hardware...

DVD+R DL is far more compatible with standalone players (when bitset to DVD-ROM) and with that said, Mitsubishi/Verbatim +RDL media is the only way to go.

I'm sure the Verbatim folks know exactly what is selling and to who. I've personally never had any problems burning and playing double layer discs at home. But from what I've gathered from others over the last year, even 80% compatibility within a randomized population is a fantasy. And since I regularly distribute video to multiple consumers/customers/users ...

And as you pointed out with regard to Verbatim discs, quality discs are expensive. They really need to come down enough in price to warrant a full blown switch over.

    No thank you.

$3.50 a disc isn't bad, but when you can get the same quality disc for $1.75, I'll take the $1.75 disc.

Ritek is hardly the same quality as Mitsubishi...

    Agreed
Ricoh made in Japan doesn't seem to be too bad, though I have yet to come across any
    Ritek

  13. I guess I have to study up on bitsetting -- I seem to remember reading that older standalone players like -R discs much better than +R... Yes I know new DVD players are cheap, etc...
