Hello all...Just wondering what the best options are for applying de-noising filters to DV (that is going to be rendered to MPEG-2).
I'm using Sony Vegas to edit the video (using different media generators etc.) and I'm pretty sure Vegas doens't have its own de-noising filters.
I'm pretty sure that the best program to use for this is Vdub or AViSynth, but I'm just wondering, what format should i output from these programs to fully maintain the DV quailty, while allowing the video to be editing in Vegas.
    Thanks!

Does the whole thing need the treatment, or just certain scenes or clips ?

I can think of two methods that might avoid double-handling of the footage.

One would be the debugmode Wax plugin, which allows the use of many virtualdub filters from within Vegas itself. There are some restrictions which may stop you using some filters, but it depends on which ones. You can then apply these on a clip by clip basis if necessary.

Another option would be to use the Debugmode frameserver to froma serve the edited footage out to avisynth, denoise, then frameserve to your encoder (assuming it isn't Vegas' Mainconcept encoder.

Both of these avoid the need to do intermediate renders to DV or uncompressed/lossless formats.

Something else to consider. While it is generally recommended that you avoid too many intermediate renders to DV, the Sony DV codec is very robost, and can withstand one or two generations while doing little if any visible damage.

    I will try that out.

To answer your question though, yes, i would need to apply it to the whole thing becasue when i don't de-interlace in Vegas, I notice noise around objects, especially when they are moving (more noticable on LCD comparted to a normal TV).

Do you think it makes sense that when i de-interlace in vegas i see less noise?
