I want to know if it's possible to just rip main movie uncompressed and burn to dual layer disc without any layer break problems?

Any Burning app that sets layer break without any hassles on DL disc?

    I use the following:

    AnyDVD

    DVD Shrink

    DVD Decrypter

    Roxio and Nero for burning

    Any suggestions would be great

I use those programs too ... that you mentioned but for burning Dual Layer ... I use different programs ...

Lots of good reading from the other folks who posted in that thread

and from my post ... I said ...

I have no problem using Verbatim DVD+R DL ...

    Jan 9th 2006 ... Best Buy ... 10 Pack $20 bucks

I use CopyToDVD with DVDFab Platinum (Express Mode) to burn DL disks

    ---------------------------------
I also last night successfully burned a 1:1 copy of the disk StarWars III Revenge of the Sith.

    Program I used ... Sonic RecordNow Deluxe v7 21

Jan 11th update ... I now have Sonic RecordNow Deluxe v730

    Summary ...

I am using two programs to burn Verbatim DVD+R DL ... disks successfully

That's dirt cheap if it's DL discs

Have you ever just ripped main movie and burn to DL and if yes which programs?

I know that from posts I've read seems most people reccommend using AnyDVD; rip with Decrypter (Read and Write ISO Mode) in other words a 1:1 copy with original layer break intact. But I'm more interested of copying main movie.

I was thinking of ripping with Decrypter and Re authoring just the main movie and possibly burning witn an app that takes care of Layer Break on DL

If you have anydvd, run it in the background, rip with decrypter (ISO->Read), load into shrink and re-author with size set to DL in the preferences. Drag just the main title across, backup to ISO and burn with Decrypter straight from Shrink. QED.

yep...dl burning has been covered quite extensively. You may have to re-author the dvd after you rip it to your hard drive to make sure you have a chapter point at the end of the first layer of the disc. This is critical in getting a good layer break.

Also RecordNow (max..deluxe..etc) is getting high praise for making the most compatible discs. I used copytodvd which works best on my pioneer (blows right through the layer break without a micro-pause) but it creates non-standard DL discs. RecordNow Max makes the most compatible in mine and others experiences.

Also Verbatim DL is the way to go.

Thank you very much that's exactly the advice I was looking for because that's the apps I'm use too and intend to use.

However, I got a movie I already ripped with DVD Decrypter but in File Mode instead of ISO-Read; I assume I'll have to rip this movie again.

I finally got a dual layer burner and had read this same advice some time ago in anticipation of getting my burner and deleted the info on hard drive; didn't have the patience of re reading so many posts.

I checked the Guides before posting my question on this; maybe I overlooked some guide on this very issue.

No, you can load this into to Shrink and go from there. ISO is just convenient for storage or if you are going to burn from Decrypter. For 1:1 backups it is best to go ISO as it is a disk image, not a file copy. If you are going to re-author then file mode is fine.

Read that ImgBurn can burn ISO like DVD Decrypter.

ImgBurn carries on from where DVD Decrypter left off!
(Well, for the burning part anyway!)

ImgBurn can write most types of CD / DVD images and it supports all the latest writers (including booktype / bitsetting on many of the major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, NEC, Plextor, Sony). You can even use ImgBurn to erase / format your rewritable media!

ImgBurn will try its very best to burn your DVD-Video double layer images using the layer break you've specified in the IFO files, but it can also calculate the best place for you, to save you the trouble.

Imgburn is fine for burning, just output an ISO from DVD Shrink, then burn that.

  11. I'm new to dual layer,

From what I'm reading, you can use DVDShrink and make a main movie only, then output to an ISO file. Imgburn can then burn it.

Question, do I need to let DVD Shrink remove the layer break and then let Imgburn add the break itself?
For the love of God, use hub/core labels on your Recordable Discs!

I'm not sure where you got the idea about ... movie only ... but I use AnyDVD with CloneDVD2.

CloneDVD2 will allow you to choose DVD-5 ... which is similar to DVDShrink [but DVDShrink will do a better quality job of shrinking a DVD Disk].

For me ... I use CloneDVD2 to remove the movie trailers that I dont need on their and any other crap on there. And then I shoot it over to DVDShrink ... but for awhile before AnyDVD was updated to fight the new Sony Arcoss protection ... I was stuck doing movie only.

All the movies my wife and I are buying have been backed up just fine with the latest version of AnyDVD ... and CloneDVD2 ... I have DVD-Rebuilder Pro and I use it too alot.

But anyways ... for a Dual Layer ... I use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 ... I then send it over to DVDShrink to make the ISO file and let Imgburn burn it to a Verbatim DVD+R DL ... Disk

jntaylor63 ... What is the maker of the Dual Layer disks do you have.

Are you happy with just ... Movie only Disks ?

Personally ... I like to at least keep the menu ... I dont want my movie to start playing as soon as I pop them in my DVD Player.

Nobody answered the question ... do we tell DVD Shrink ... "Remove Layer Break" and then have ImgBurn take of the rest ??
