EDIT: before i even finished typing this i remembered avisynth had options to force the codec ...even though it was just the fourcc i tried it out and it seems to work fine (i tested it out in wmp which shows the divx watermark when that codec is used) -but i still would like to know if you guys know how to do any of these things ...for curiosity sake

    hey guys,
i just converted a xvid encoded avi to dvd and it had the divx watermark at the bottom right at the beginning! so i checked it out with graphedit and its true ...even though i have xvid installed and set to decode all 4cc's the default is to use dvix. so i reinstalled xvid and no change ...but if i manually route the path through the xvid decoder in graphedit it plays fine.

...my concern is that im losing quality by decoding with dvix since ive read that xvid is better.

since i know there are several ways this can work out i got a few questions:

    1) is there a way to force xvid to be used first (without gettin rid of divx since i need that for those annoying -curse the tard who uses it- div3 low motion codecs

    2) if not is there a way to use graphedit to stream output -like avisynth or even through avisynth?!?! (i didnt see anything like this in the guide section)

    3) is there a way to force cce to use the xvid codec

    thanks for any help

Without post processing all decoders output should be identical. Otherwise they aren't spec compliant. With post processing. I couldn't say which is better between DivX and XviD.

AVISynth uses VfW for avisource(). With VfW, if an avi has the fourCC XVID and XviD is installed, then XviD will always be used. With directshow, the filter with the highest merit is used. You could increase XviD's merit, disable the logo in DivX or unticking generic MPEG-4 used to stop it from decoding XviD.
