    Hello All..

    For some reason my avi. player doesn't work; either I get sound only with no pic in Windows Media Player, or the movie won't play at all. My Nero showtime player won't play them either. My son tried to play one of his Mechwarrior games, and he gets an error message that one of the avi's will not play (there are several in the game and none of them will play, only error messages). Strange, I thought a default .avi player was installed with XP; I did a repair reinstall from the repair consol using the /r command, but it didn't help. Then I tried a normal repair reinstall from the disk, and no joy. All other moveis, mpeg's, etc. play normally.

    The only thing I have been doing is trying to convert my old analog camcorder family movies to digital and MPEG2's using WinTV-PVR250 and Ulead Vid.Studio 8. What I don't know about codec's etc. would fill many volumes, are there any suggestions so I can get my avi's to play again and my son can play his game? Thanks as usual..

    Setup:
    AMD Barton 2700/2.1GHz
    I Gig pc3200 RAM
    Radion 8500LE V.card/64
    WinTV-PVR 250 card

    It's probably codec related, yes.
    Use GSpot to identify what codec is used for the AVI(s) that wont play. Download and install that codec(s).

    Well, G Spot seems to work well. The codec it detailed is CRAM/MSV. I searched websites for two hours and can't find that particular codec. It is referenced in one site with the general Microsoft.com website link (big help!) but I can't find it.

    Anyone know where I can download it?

    Thanks Matts & Gunslinger, appreciate the response. Yeah, I was in that website, and the original poster asked the same question that I did, and I notice that the responders didn't give him an answer. Well, I shall continue searching.

    Okay, I may have found something. Evidently this is a fairly common problem, so it may appear in the forum again. It appears that this reference is actually msvidc32.dll, so I Googled it and found this;

    Link: http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/4275p1.html

    I will try it when I get home tonight and let you know what happens. If anyone else has knowledge about this, feel free to jump in!

    Well, possibly this link may possibly be one reason why nobody appears to have an answer:
