It's possible , but you need to consult the manual that came with you tv set as you have not provided the brand or model of the unit involved .

Should you be on the line of dvd to dvd , this in many case's will not work because of the encryption used ... instead you will end up recording blue screen 99% of the time .

To do that , there is a special box you need to purchase that remove's the protection from the signal ... however these device are around , but not many sell them , and I dont recall the last one I seen by name ... you will need to do some searching online for these device's and where they can be obtained .

The last one I did see was about $70 au .

    Or go buy a playstation 2 .

You can play the dvd in the playstation 2 unit , and record without problem ... something sony forgot ...

Sony fixed my unit so it is region free ... any movie , any game , from any region ... it was the only way to get past australian fair use right's , and to cull mod chipping issue .

  3. Maybe this can work:

DVD Player --> SCART1 on the TV
Telewest Box --> INPUT SCART of Dvd Recorder. ANd Output scart of dvd recorder --> SCART2 of TV.

I'm not sure if it will be working if the DVD Recorder is in standby mode
