  1. When you use smart ripper how long does it take to rip a two hour movie?

    450MHz K/6
    128MB

  2. hrm? i'm assuming you're just referring to the ripping part and not the encoding. if that's the case, the only hardware specs u need to list is dvd-rom speed and brand. also, 2 hour movies may not have same vob sizes. some 2 hr movies have much bigger vobs than others.

as for me, i'm using a 12x dvd-rom. rips at around 6x-7x...so for 2 hr movie it's using around 15 min.

while I was re-ripping this movie, and we all know how
long it takes for this forum to display a new when
    we view new posts!!

Pioneer 10x --> (UDMA=disabled in BIOS for this speed
to be available, aprox 6x-9x ave. time on most movies)

Another "Smartripper Ripping Speed" post. I'll bite.

Some of us are amazed whe we get 3-5x speeds... so don't feel bad...

I did have a Pioneer 6x DVD-Rom for a long time. I finally suspected there might be some problem tith it, when it started to fail at reading normal CD-Rom's. So, I swapped it out for a Toshiba 6x that I was keeping in case my Apex unit died...

Well, all specs being equal, I now get anywhere from 3x to 5x ripping speed, movie mode, decoding features turned on. The Pioneer was only giving me 1.3x!

To answer the original generic question... any modern, working DVD-Rom drive should be able to rip any movie in under half an hour. If it doesn't, something's wrong.

  7. I had a Samsung that came with my Dell that would rip from 1.6 all the way to 0.5. Then it stopped ripping things (more or less) completely. My wife's Hitachi from her Gateway (a third of the power of my Dell) rips at 6x for some reason. Go figure!

Then upgrade to a 6x drive and get 3x-5x speed!

  9. Ripping Superman Special Edition on my 16x took about 15min+ (movie is 156min long) and I think the speed is reducing since i've been ripping the same DVD for like a dozen times by now
