    Hi!
I want to use my DVD writer in my new machine.
I have a LG GSA-4081B, which has an ATAPI IDE interface.

Will it work in an UltraDMA interface?

    Thanks!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

Yes. It will work. If you are replacing an old drive with a newer one, make sure the jumpers are set the same position as the old drive.

IDE has two channels for each interface normally. The IDE cable is made for the Master to be the last connector on the cable. The one in between is the Slave connector. Just set the middle drive to Slave and the end drive to Master.

Use a 80 conductor IDE cable with newer drives. It usually comes with the drive.

Most computers have 2 IDE interfaces and 4 channels total. Your boot drive is usually Master on the first. Then there is a Slave on the same channel.

The second interface will have a Master and Slave channel also.

Not strictly true - the IDE cable is non-specific - you can put either master or slave onto the middle or end connector. In theory there is a speed difference in data transfer times, but you'd be hard pushed to notice (or even measure) the difference.
So long as the new DVD drive's jumper is set to the same as the old one, a straight swap is perfectly fine.
