I use VirtualDub Mod with the addition of the Panasonic DV Codec for Filtering DV. Then I frameserve the edited or filtered video directly to the encoder, TMPGEnc in my case.

VDM has many available filters. AVIsynth is probably a better choice for filtering and frameserving, but has a steeper learning curve.

Filters for both can be found at http://neuron2.net/

While in VDM, after editing, you can also save out the audio as a WAV and use ffmpeggui to convert it to AC3, then combine it with the video when you author to DVD.

I wrote a guide on how to use AviSynth and the Convolution3D video noise filter. It works very well.

Here is a link to that guide ---> CLICK HERE

Yes CCE has internal noise filters, two of them actually. Look on the picture quality tab. The low filter is your basic noise reduction filter. It is a low pass filter which blurs information to remove noise. Additionally, the Vertical filter is used to remove speckle noise. Read the manual for information on how to set these manually or use one of the simple settings up at the top.

  6. CCE 2.50 had what they called an "Anti-Noise" filter. I can't seem to find it in the recent versions. About all I can find is a vertical filter and a low-pass filter, not the same thing. It doesn't matter anyway, as there are a variety of better temporal filters available for use in AviSynth.
