I have a lot of video clips which were recorded with the incorrect date and time settings on the recorder when the recording was done. I do have the date and times when the recordings were done written down.

What I would like to do is somehow change the timestamps in the DV avi file, so that it has the correct time (as was written down), as this will make my life a lot easier.

Is there any way to do this? I have looked at Visual DV Time Stamp and DVdate, but they don't seem to have the options I want.

Is it possible to change the timestamp by using a Hex Editor? Is the timestamp found in the header of the avi, or is there an individual stamp for each frame?

    Any help would be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, DVDate will do exactly what you asked for. I'm not sure if you're wanting more than it can do, but by accident, I had the date off by one day, and it changed it for me....well, in the inlay anyway. I don't think it did anything to the actual original file.

It will do it (most recent version):

[Convert | Fix a time difference]

Man, that app is a good utility!

I haven't had much time to check it out yet, but the "fix a time difference" options is disabled, so I can't select it.

Any ideas why this is the case?

I still need to check out the help file for DVDate. I am using ver 5.3.6

Ok, I figured out how to do it, you need to set the time difference value in the preferences window. This works nicely, except for one problem. You can only change the time by hour increments, and I want to be able to adjust minutes as well as hours (possibly seconds as well)

    Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for all help.

Haven't tried it yet, but can you put in "3.25" for 3hours,15minutes ? Good luck about the seconds--you'd need a Timecode calculator/converter or spreadsheet just to figure out the fractions.

Guess that part hasn't been fully implemented yet. Sounds like the app's author is open to suggestions though...

Yeah, I thought of that, but it seems you can only enter integer values.

Perhaps I'll send the author an email.
