DVDx1.8 freezing with Panasonic plugin

This site is a great resource. Relative newbie but starting to get some feel for making VCDs.

Briefly I have made successfuld vcds with DVDx1.8. I thought I would like to try and improve video quality and try Panasonic 2.51plug in. It seems to install ok and visible on output menu. Unfortunatley when plugin is chosen and then go to encode dvdx gives an error message and crashes.

I hae tried various fiddles with plug in settings and output settings on DVDx to no avail.
Also tried fresh installof dvdx and reinstalling plugin
Pent 4 running win 98

Now spent ? 6 hours on problem and getting a bit peeved :evil:

I am aware from reading forum that TMPGe popular encoder and can get this to go ok still would like to have solution for above if anyone has idea??

If you want to try Panasonic plugin safely, get DVDx 1.6, this is the version which works best with it. Any higher version will crash or hang 90% and 1.8a will not work with it, no way. See my other post above.

hi, agree with keffie. version 1.6 works fine with the plugin. i have tried 1.7 and 1.8 prob prob prob.cu

Thank you for the advice you guys. If this adds to the general pool of knowlege I can report I managed to track down a 1.6 version of DVDX and no problems with panasonic plug in. Even the 1.7 version would still crash.

Maybe this might save someone a few hours of mucking around..
