    Hello all,

I recently bought a generic video capture box to try out capturing from my cable box to my PC. The box has video/audio/s-video inputs and USB output to the PC. The software that came with it is honestech tv plus. It displays the signal coming out of the cable box just fine on the PC but when I go to record it says it cannot because og Macrovision Copy Protection. My cable company is Comcast (Digital cable) and my cable box is the Motorola DCT6412. Is there anyway around this copy protection? I didn't know they added Macrovision to TV shows. Since the software is giving me the error, can I use other capture software that will strip out ot ignore Macrovision.

    Thanks, Eric

Try other software? Might try googling on the motorolla box for capture prob?

Only protection via cable I was aware of concerned HD content, I *think* on that same box, & again going by memory, think it was a flag included in the video stream to the box, which disabled HD recording as HD -- it was downsampled to 720. Maybe something new if not software screwing up.

You might also google a bit on transferring video. My understanding is depending on firmware version, might be able to transfer video from the boxes hard drive to yours intact via firewire.
