  1. Ok, now it seems pretty clear that most of the people thinks that Ebay is useful just sometimes, then the next group thinks that It rocks and a close third group think that it sucks.

Now it's turn to the infamous PayPal to stand trial. So...

    Paypal:

Sucks?, Rocks?, Useful at times?, discuss.

No real problems with it. Other than federal guidelines for sending money, which you can't get around anyway, are the only issues I've had with it.

It's not FDIC insured, but if PAYPAL accounts could be FDIC insured in the US, there'd be a heck of a lot more usage. I've never had my account blocked, and any issues I had were cleared up quickly. I wouldn't mind hearing how people who had them blocked, got them blocked.

I've used PayPal to send money and receive money and have never had any complaints. I suspect that people who do have problems use PayPal for "frequent" transactions. And, if you do frequent business with any financial institution or handler, you're bound to experience a glitch somewhere along the way.

    It does what it does.......

....though I did get pissed off with the recent validation process. I'd happily used PayPal for 3 years until I was stopped from paying for an item because the cards which I had been using until then needed a 2 week validation process.

In short, the only person stopped from using the cards was their rightful owner

The validation process does suck, but again it's not like it's something new and they are going as fast as the systems that they deal with allow them to. PayPal is probably the most efficient part of the whole process. My bank was always the one causing holdups and problems with PayPal.

I only fund my paypal account with a checking account with a small amount of money in it. And the credit card that I used to open the account with has long since expired and never updated paypal with any credit card info.
I keep a small balance in my paypal account and use it for little Ebay purchases and to fund my Skype account....which I did just yesterday as a matter of fact.
I've never had a problem with Paypal or Ebay.

I used to really love PayPal, but now it has become a necessary evil.

I remember when PayPal was free and you would get $5 for referring people and/or validating your account.

Now they're like the banks they make fun of in TV commercials, where they charge you for every little thing.

  12. IT SUCKS......i had to upgrade to premier to accept payment from credit cards, and now a get charged even when they pay with their banl account, and that was free before..

SO, if you don't upgrade it's good, otherwise IT SUCKS...

Yeah you could look at it that way, but compared to other solution (just check out Western Union's rate - WHOA) ... PayPal serves it purpose...or atleast I am willing to deal with the minor skimming they do.

But then again, normal vendors that accept credit cards pay more per transactions (generally) then PayPal charges.

Not a flame, not a rant but PayPal's rates IMHO are very manageable for the service you receive compared to others.

I'll agree with that. When I worked in model trains years ago, the cost to accept credit cards was not cheap. the rates of PayPal services are quite good. I think it just pisses poeple off that aren't use to being charged the extra amount and don't know what the charge is for.

Used to have bookmarks for a couple of similar sites, as well. Is this info out of date ?
(It may be a different ball of wax altogether, if you are a merchant as opposed to just an occasional user.)

Without Paypal and services like it, the would be alot fewer Ebay power sellers.

One of the deciding factors as to whether I purchase something from a seller on Ebay or not is if they accept Paypal. Otherwise, I just find another seller. Dealing with the turnaround time of the postal service and waiting for checks to post is a pain in the ass.

I have only had one experience with Paypal when they froze my account with $600.00 in it. They sent me an email requesting a copy of my phone bill, my credit card statement, and my driver's license. I followed this up with an email that basically stated they could kiss my ass right after they spoke with my attorney. About a day later, my Paypal account was reactivated.

    Not a problem since.

It's a couple years old. They even talk about eBay recently buying PayPal. It's been like 3 years.

I've never had an issue with it, but it's only good if you're sending money. If you're receiving money you have to pay a fee, which is on top of the ebay fees, etc so I'm never happy when a winning bidder pays with it, especially if you didn't make much $ on the auction itself. Plus eBay advertises the hell out of it (I don't prefer bidders paying with paypal, ebay) but it is a convenience and a guarantee you are getting paid, and they do offer free electronic funds transfer to your account.

You should have joined years ago...my CC on my Paypal account expired a long time ago. I guess the new user rules have changed a bit since then.

They keep sending me new ones just before the old one expires. I only needed a bank account to join.

I do know someone that had just over $1000 taken out of their banking account fraudulently. However, it was because someone got ahold of their eBay account and they used the same password as their PayPal account. SOmebody in Russia bid on crappy laptops for outrages prices. One of the sellers sent a reply to the guys actual email address rather than replied on eBay. The guy found out about the first transaction and shut the whole thing down. He got all his money back, but it wasn't PayPal's fault either.

  24. how about Paypal sucks but it is a necessary evil. i hate it paypal due to a horrible nightmare with them where they had 6000 of my money for 3 1/2 months. all because i started to do "well" on ebay. Unfortunetly if you wanna do business on ebay 90% or more buyers and sellers use it. No other alternative right now thats as easy and widespread. Just hope you never get "flagged" for some stupid reason.

  26. i know someone personally (this isnt some roundabout info, this is something that happened to someone i know) that had their funds frozen for no real good reason at all, that being said, i dont trust them.......as far as ebay sales go, if they dont take money orders, or outright credit cards (i only tend to deal with very large, very much established sellers) i wont buy the item.....
yes, there is some turnaround time, but unlike paypal, you dont have to worry if your money will be frozen and you wont have access to it, or your transaction declined, and you end up with negitive feedback because of it.......

Paypal at least leaves a trail. You can then follow up with them if there's an issue (also purchase insurance!). Money order, bidpay and similar form of cash-like payments are attractive to frauds. No way you can get your money back if you deal with a crook. This is the best way to kiss you money good bye.

If you use PayPal, only put enough money in the account to pay for transactions you have made. Do not give paypal you saving account's bank number.

PayPal is totally unregulated by any governement.

It lacks even the minor regulatory oversite that credit card issuers and processors have.

There are terms in the PayPal user agreement which conflict with Mastercard and Visa rules and consumer protection rights under federal law.

It works great until your checking account is emptied and your checks start to bounce.

If you don;t use Ebay enough to justify an extra checking account to use with PayPal, don;t even consider it.

  30. if u are a buyer you really dont have anything to worry about, as a seller you could be put out of business easily. No capitol and u are done. I honestly dont know why the goverment doesnt step in and regulate paypal. With all the problems u think someone would step in. i guess well have to wait until a policition or thier family member gets ****** over by paypal before anything gets done. and ROF u are a fag by the way. a goverment agent FAG.

You are in breach of the forum rules and are being issued with a formal warning. Abusive language.
