Try audacity. You should be able to copy and paste both channels into one new file. (freeware)

    thanks for reply.

have tried out audacity and it seemed to be a great audio editing software. but I couldnt find the option which meets my need here.

the file I have is in stereo mode, left channel is only music and right channel is only voice. what I wanted to do is to convert the file into mono mode so that left channel would be music+voice as well as to the right channel.

would you mind to point out which option in audacity could do the mentioned above or I need to use other software.

    thanks.

If it's MP3, LAME has the option to encode as MONO.

Audacity works like a word processor. Click the small down arrow to the left of the audio track. Select 'Split Stereo Track'. Now you have two independent channels. Click on a blank space in the same area to select one channel. It will be highlighted.

Then in 'Edit', you select 'Cut'. Click on the other channel and highlight it and select 'Paste' and paste it on top of the other. Then you copy the new combined channel and paste that back to your other now blank channel. Click again to 'Make Stereo Track' and you should have two combined left and right channels like you started with. Then save it.

At least I think that's right. I haven't done it for a while. If you make a mistake, it has a 'undo'. You can play the finished file by selecting a portion before you save it and see if it worked.

thanks for the help-out. finally I managed to get the thing done.

Audacity and LAME both can do the job very fine.

    thanks again.
