I'm having diificulty joining xvids they're all the same bitrate and whatnot so there shouldn't be a problem. Usually I'd use Avi-Mux which has been great until now when suddenly I seem to keep getting this error.

I've tried using Virtualdub and it's various incarnations and while it does work, 9 times outta 10 there's often a noticeable join, whether it be a blip or the sound is suddenly lowered.

Are there any other options or a way to fix he Avi-Mux problem?

VD is probably having problems because of the headers. Why not just run them through VD using the Xvid codec and rewrite them? Or at least run error checking to see if there are other problems.

The other question is why are you joining them? If you plan to convert to DVD, let the authoring program do that. VD does about as good a job joining AVI files as most other programs, but unless you fix the errors, you will likely have a bad join using any program.

No I'm not converting them just don't want 2 parts. Avi-Mux has never had any problems joining these exact types of Xvids before & I've always found that all the dubs don't like them and if i use them I get an obvious join, I've been told it's to do with AC3 audio I don't know why Avi-Mux has suddenly stopped working and giving me that damn error I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the videos, it'd be an amazing coincidence to keep getting hold of duff videos.

The problem is an audio one as the video looks perfect when joined, but I suddenly lose sound or it's significantly lower and there's almost always an annoying blip.

"when joined.... there's almost always an annoying blip."

If I remember correctly there was another thread (within the last few weks) with a few suggestions on joining the ac3 that apparently worked. Otherwise could convert to wav, join, then go back to ac3 if you had to.

But as redwudz suggested, perhaps the best solution would be to fix the bad file, if it was indeed bad -- easy enough to find out by demuxing and running through ac3fix or delaycut or... If the ac3 isn't bad, then maybe one of the ac3 d/show filters (or the default filter) has changed on your system?

A *real guess* would be if all else failed check the audio interleave time in your xvid.
