after spending a few hours trying to find the latest drivers for the pinnacle dv500+ card & "bluebox," i had just enough time to do a test capture before i clocked out. as usual, more problems:

the vhs has no protection on it, the content was filmed on a camera and recorded to a tape by a professor. DV capture works fine through the card with the canon camera they have here, but i've changed all the settings and still can't rid the analog capture of these lines.

upon further testing, DV stuff gets the same lines.

Try viewing it it windvd or powerdvd. I believe you are seeing interlace lines...

  4. Whatever that is, it is definitely NOT interlacing.

    Drivers, cable, possible defective card.

yep..those lines are vertical...interlacing goes the other way

  6. That may be a display driver bug. Try changing the overlay setting of your graphics card.

Looks like either your using bad cable or the connection is faulty.

well, out of frustration, i tried windows movie maker to capture the video

lo and behold, it worked, and has none of those lines. the file format is .wmv. i used a converter program, and converted the .wmv to both .avi and .mpg. the .mpg plays in both windows media player and adobe premier without lines. but when i open the .avi in premier, it has the same lines.

so, it would appear that i have issues with either .avi files or premier. but i (think that i) ruled out the possibility that the problem lies in the cables or the hardware.

edit: i just opened the .avi files that i thought were garbage in VirtualDub, and they play flawlessly. so it appears that the issue lies within premier. i'm going to dig through settings to see if i can find anything.
