I've been out of the dvdr media market for about a year and now need to buy some more blanks. I noticed at supermediastore.com the Taiyo Yuden seem to be cheaper than the Prodisc. What gives? I thought TY was the best/most expensive. I had some Prodisc awhile back that worked great, and for the last year I've been using TY, and not really noticed any difference (both seem to burn flawlessly, and every once in awhile I'll have a problem playing one in a friend's dvd player).

So really, as long as the quality hasn't gone down in either media, I'll be happy. Just wanted to check and see if that was the case.

    Thanks,
    Brent

Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim MCC are the two best medias currently available. Others are hit and miss concerning quality and compatability.

  3. You can get Verbatim that are made by Taiyo Yuden as well and in the UK I got some cheaper than I could get unbranded Taiyo Yuden. They were about £7 or about $12 for 25, I got 50.

Every single Verbatim I can find in San Francisco was made in Taiwan...

  5. They have the TYG02 dye and are great. This is a link to them on the website where I got them, they are now out of stock.

TY sold as Verbatim is Europe only. All of the Verbatim DVD media sold in the US is MCC media made in Taiwan.

maybe in very general terms. Here in the eastern med, which supposedly part of europe, I see only the mcc Verbatims. Would love to get hold of TY Verbatims. We are all at the mercy of importers who just buy the best deals they can get their hands on, and usually haven't the faintest clue about qualities or manufacturers.

Nothing wrong with MCC media. I'm not sure why Verbatim even sells TY under its brand name since MCC/MKM has its own discs.

  9. Have to say I have been pleasantly surprised by the FUJI Prodisc F02 16X I purchased by mistake a few weeks ago. Great burns with LG4167 and BenQ1655 (both firmwares had to be updated to recognize and burn at 16X). Error rates almost as good as the best TY. So rare that I get good surprises nowadays.

That *is* surprising. I haven't seen very great results with the Prodisc -R media that uses the Fujifilm dyes (F01, F02) wherease the ones using AZO dyes seem to do better (S03, S04, etc).

According to http://www.nomorecoasters.com MCC makes what it calls "1st class media". I think what happens is that people see "made in Taiwan" and just assume that everything made there is junk. Maybe most Taiwanese media is bad, but not all.

I have been buying ty from supermedia store for some time now and have never had a problem with tyg01 or g02, i have had a problem with some current fujifilm (prodisc F03) brand, skipping when it hits about an hour, so i highly recommend TY from Super media. Flawless
