  1. I bought the daewoo dvd recorder. It's got a tuner that stops at ch 125. Problem is, my comcast cable service goes up to 800 and beyond. I can't figure out how to get the recorder to see channels beyond 125.

I use a cablecard (NO CABLE BOX) in my Samsung TV. I thought if I left the TV or recorder set to channel 3, it would work. No dice. It only records the channel the recorder tuner is set to.

Are all recorders like this ? Are there some with better tuners ? Is there a different way to connect this ? I called Daewoo, and the guy didn't have a way to make this work.

The tuner can only "see" the analog channels. These days many if not most channels are "digital" channels and usually the "switch" from "analog" to "digital" happens somewhere around the 100 channel mark.

The only way to get the "digital" channels is to use a cable box as provided by your cable company. The other alternative is the cable card but right now only (very few) televisions use that ... I'm not aware of any recording devices that can use a cable card.

All tuners are like this be it on a VHS VCR or a stand alone DVD recorder or a capture card/device made for a computer.

You can still use the cable card for the TV but you need to get a cable box for the stand alone DVD recorder.

When it comes to program a recording you have to do it on the cable box as well as on the stand alone DVD recorder. Some model/makes of stand alone DVD recorders come with a device that can control a cable/satellite box and turn it on and off and tune it to the proper channel so you don't have to manually program both devices. Either your stand alone DVD recorder supports this or it does not. Sometimes it may support this feature but not come with the accessory. Check your manual.
