i need to find a good program ( freeware if pos) that will allow me to capture some old videos onto my computer. i have a TX -100 encoder with windvd creator 2, which works well until i try to capture a shop brought video and windvd stops after 8 secs. All videos are just being backed up onto dvds for me.![]()

Have you got an old tape of something you recorded from the tv to test .
You may have run into macrovision ... just checked on device and there is no mentioning of this ... so it could be the device or even windvd dont like macro protected source .
I think there was something mentioned a while back about windvd , but dont recall if it was about the program detecting macrovision which prevent's it from recording .
Other tool's that your device may work with to test :
Ulead video studio .
Nerovision express .
Do a test recording of an old tape , as I mentioned above , and make sure you can record without any problem's .
If no problem with old personal recording , then it's a macrovision problem .
If problem persist's , you have a problem with the device or windvd that need's addressing ... you will need to make sure device driver's are correctly installed ... and retest using another capture product as mentioned above , as it will avoid running into any problem associated with windvd .
If device now work's , it's windvd problem .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With most new device's now available , you must install driver's and software first , then trun pc off , install hardware , restart pc , and go from there .
If you installed the other way around , unistall all program's associated with capture device , do the same for the device driver's in the control panel ... turn pc off , remove this device , restart pc .
Now install in the correct manner as explained above .
With usb2 device's , I recommend a powered usb hub , to prevent the accidental "usb has reset - overload warning" .
This last thing is not what anyone will want to see happen ... in such an event ... replace motherboard or put up with a lack of performance from usb capture device .
