I would like to know if there is a great way to copy VHS to DVD not using the computer. SONY DVDDirect is one such product. Roxio VHS to DVD is a product that uses your PC. What is better? I am looking to take all of my VHS to DVD and looking for best easiest task. If I decide to go through my PC what is highly recommended?
Thanks

Get a regular dvd recorder that hooks up to your tv not your computer. Though they are not as common as they have been in the U.S. these days. You probably won't find ones with harddrives anymore in store.
Though be aware you'll need a copy protection removal device in between your vcr and the dvd recorder if you intend to backup your commercially produced tapes. You'll have to look online for those.
If you do go through the computer anything from hauppauge will do nicely. Though there are other quality brands as well. Set your budget and your requirements and go from there. Though you may want to go with an internal capture card rather than a usb dongle for hardware encoding for better captures.Donatello - The Shredder? Thanks I think I will stick with the SONY DVDirect this way I can take the DVD and use my PC software for editing.
Thanks -
The SONY DVDirect is low quality. The DVDs look worse than the tapes.

Hmm I think the quality was pretty good to the VHS quality. I have done peoples old wedding videos on DVD and they were happy with it. It looks like a video capturing card will have to do? I have 2 hauppauge cards that I purchased b/c I thought about making a PVR but it was a PITA so I stuck with Tivo lol. I have a Quad Core Processor. The cards I have are a few years old. I am not looking to spend alot of money to get this accomplished. Any suggestions? Thanks What is the best software as well I am not looking for something too complicated.

There should be no reason to get a new card if you already have happauge capture cards that have video input jacks (assuming they do, I suppose there are some models that are tuner only). Assuming you do have hauppague cards with input jacks (sometimes they come as a svideo dongle) then simply reinstall the card and use the original software. Just be sure to get the last update for that card to make sure you maximize the functionality of the card.
