There are numerous windows media video clips on NBC's 2006 Winter Olympics site that I would like to archive but I haven't been able to do it. I get good urls from URLSnooper but my download manager (Fresh Download) isn't able to save anything beyond 1k .asx files.

FYI, the Save As option in WMP is greyed out.

    Any suggestions please?

  4. If you don't mind shelling out a few $$$, then I recommend WM Recorder ($49, www.wmrecorder.com, it'll capture wmv streams and save them to files on your computer. It will not remove any drm protection, it just allows you to save these files for archival purposes on your own computer, just so you can watch them any time.

I'm iffy on whether capturing these files from NBC's site is a no-no or not for this forum's purposes, but because this software will not allow you to convert, just save for later viewing, and only on the machine these were originally viewed on, I hope that qualifies as a legitimate use.

EDIT: Oh, good, Baldrick posted on this already, I'm not gonna get in trouble!

P.S. I have WM Recorder installed on my computer for archiving work videos (incredibly boring stuff); I tried it on the NBC website and it definitely works to capture the videos.

Thanks for the suggestion. The first thing I tried was a command line "dump" using mplayer, but it acted like it didn't have the right codec for the file. I guess I'll have to try wmrecorder sometime before they take the clips off the site.

As far as the legality of it, I can't imagine there would be any problem with archiving these clips for later viewing offline or after they have long since been removed from the site.
