    I tried to burn a VCD from an AVI file, but the colors were all blurry.. han I tried to do burn it to a DVD and Nero came back that this file type was not supported??? Is this a codec issue?

    nero burning rom can't create dvds from avi. you need nerovision...or if you are using nerovison try something else like divxtodvd.

    No. But then AVI can't be just "burned" as VCD or DVD without conversion to mpeg1/mpeg2 respectively. VCD is mpeg1 which is free, DVD is mpeg2 which is not free, and a special plugin has to be bought for Nero.
    But on the other hand, Nero sucks as mpeg encoder, so it's just throwing good money after bad - Start reading some guides under CONVERT left on AVI to VCD/DVD, and learn how to do it properly and mostly for free.
