I was having a conflict with writing a dvd-rw using tmpgenc dvd author. I would go through the building stage then go to the writing stage and it would take over 30 min to write a 20 min video that I made and still would not have all its sectors. It is in the correct mpeg format also. I gave up and aborted. Generally it should take around 7 min for my burner to write that.
Finally, I traced the problem down to nero 6. I think it had something to do with the latest nero updates i loaded into my computer. I also noticed from helping a friend install some of her software including her copy of nero, that express lets you check list a variety of formats you want express to allow. Everything was writing ok before those updates in tmpgenc dvd. Now, I uninstalled nero and tmpgenc writes fine.

Is there anyway to avoid this catastophy, and reinstall nero with its most current updates, so I can still use nero's progams with no conflicts to tmpgenc dvd author?

I'd guess that maybe Nero registered some of it's DVD related files as Windows default, & TDA just doesn't like that, assuming it doesn't have anything to do with the Yahoo toolbar Nero tries to get you to install. As removing Nero helped, probably not changed files or anything too serious, so could probably get away with doing the Nero update/install, then repairing the install of TDA (add/remove prog) or reinstalling TDA should set things right.

If you don't use DVD related stuff in Nero, could also try renaming folders for that end of things -- include one inside common files folder. Also might not hurt to turn off Nero Check program at every boot into windows.
