i have a big mpeg file and i wanted to do split scenes in the movie. when i move the bar to the section i wanted to cut in and out, it doesnt cut exactly where i wanted, there is some frames from the previous scene added in. i want the video to be the same kind of format as the movie so i used direct stream copy. but i think it only cuts on keyframes. but i saw some movie editors using the same program cut at the right frame. Anyone know how to fix my problem? Thanks

VD will only cut on keyframes. The problem is not VD, it's the video. Xvid files, for example, often only have a keyframe every 300 or so frames.

But if you are editing MPEG, then try Cuttermaran or for a few dollars, MPEG-VCR or MPEG Video Wizard.

The best AVI type format for editing is DV. Every frame is a keyframe.

Not sure what you are asking, but when I had to have frame accurate editing, I converted the video to DV using VD and the Panasonic DV codec. Not maybe the best solution, but it worked for me. Anytime you convert a video to a different format, you will lose some quality. If frame accurate editing is what you need, DV will do it. Direct stream, sure, if you have the right format to start with. But you would need a format that has enough keyframes to work for you.

I'm sure there are other ways, that's just what works for me.
