I was told to put the .mov file from my iMovie into toast and burn. Which I have successfully done once before.

Now I'm trying to do the same thing again - Toast will encode all the way through but once it starts the burn process I get 3 pop up window with errors, then the disk ejects. It's totally frustrating as it takes about a half hour for it to encode.

Is there any other way I can get this .mov file from iMovie to make a DVD? And can someone explain disk image. Is this another option for me?

I'm running a G3 iBook, Tiger 10.4.4, I also have DiskBlaze and Toast 7. I don't have iDVD (does that matter?) And an external DVD Burner.

In Toast, do a "Save as Disk Image...", this will encode the movie to DVD and save the result as an image file that you may then burn with Toast. Doing it this way gets you past the encoding process. It would be helpful to know the exact error messages as this might tell us what the problem really is.

Once you have the image file, though, the issue is just getting it to burn to disc. You'll want to check the image file so, after Toast has created it, lock it (in the Finder) so you don't accidentally alter it. Then double-click it and Toast will load it. Click the "Mount" button and the image file will be mounted on the Desktop so DVD Player can play the movie. This should tell you whether the encoding was successful. Also check the mounted image's size. Is it small enough to fit onto a single-layer DVD? Are you using single-layer DVD's? If not, is your burner capable of dual-layer burning?

Thanks for the quick response.... I'll give that a try. The file is pretty small and will definately fit on a single-layer DVD. Like I mentioned, I had done this once before, just got errors this time around.

As for the errors, I can't say exactly it's a mix of things, track errors, burn errors, and I don't want to go through another "encoding" process to find out. If after this disk image is done and I go to burn it, and get errors, I'll write them down before I "ok" the error msg.

One other question... After I have the Image, what way do I burn it? I mean, for the .mov file I use the Video area and select "standard quality" NTSC. Do I select these same settings for the disk image? Or do I select Data?

Error msgs, trying to burn the disc image is as follows:

    Drive Reported an error
    Sense Key = Medium error
    Sense Code = 0x72, 0x01
    Session Fixation Error writing Lead-In

    (clicked ok - next error)

    Sense Key = Illegal Request
    Sense Code = 0x72, 0x03
Session Fixation Error Incomplete track in Session

    (clicked ok - next error)

    Sense Key = Illegal Request
    Sense Code = 0x72, 0x03
Session Fixation Error Incomplete Track in Session

    (click ok - disk ejects)

These are immediate errors, the second I try to burn.

Ok... tried AGAIN and it burned.... no errors, go figure, so why does this happen? I picked up 4 "coasters" off my floor. Is there any possibility that I just bought a REALLY REALLY bad batch of DVD's from Staples???? They were on Sale. FujifFilm DVD's. If so, what are some of the more better quality ones? And I will also ask this question as a new topic.

I've never burned a good Verbatim DVD. I use Ritek (mostly +R) silver tops but Memorex have also worked well. (This is a classic case of "YMMV", eh?)

Could it be that ArizonaGal needs to try burning at 1X?

To burn the Disk Image (created by Toast), just double-click the image file in the Finder and Toast will open it with the correct "tab" and you'll be ready to burn.
