    I read somewhere that the G5 is best for output of h.264 encoded video playback? Is this true? If I want to set up my EyeHome to serve converted Dvds to h.264 will the G5 ultimatly produce a better image?

    Have you actually been able to output H264 from your Mac to a TV? I had read that this was not (yet) possible. Please check and post.

    I have a dual-2.0CPU G5 and am considering a similar solution.

    If you don't want to follow the thread shown above, the answer is "No; H264 doesn't work on the EyeHome yet."
