Just bought and installed a Pioneer 110 - seems to working but a load of questions.

    1) I have Nero 5. something - is this able to write DVD's ?

    2) How do I go about getting a trial version of Nero - how do I get a key to activate (do I need a key to activate ?)

    3) Computer just seems to recognise 1.99gb of the blank DVD - is this normal ?

    4) Should I be able to drag and drop data onto DVD RAM without any writing software ?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    1) It will write DVDs but does not support alot of media. visit the Nero.com wbesite and select upgrade. Enter your current serial key to receive upgrade prices to the latest version 7.

    2) Visit Nero.com for both a trial version of Nero 7 and to purchase an activation key.

    3) Depending on your operating system this may be normal. Nero 5 has limited support for DVDs and might report false available space on unsupported media.

    4) Depending on your operating system, Yes, you can drag and drop to DVD RAM discs.

Since your profile does not list any of your computer specs most people here will be unable to assist you.

  3. yeh true, upgrade to nero 6 at least,vers.7 is out now.
5 was really pre! dvd,in a manner of speaking.its very dated now.
go to www.nero.com and check out the prices there.
or a local pc store to you may sell oem versions of nero for cheaper than net prices, best to shop around.
you get the key with it if you buy it!
BUT there are better writing softwares out now rather than nero, some people find nero too much hit and miss, imgburn, good ol dvddecryter, copytodvd, etc to name a few.
for burning dvds, authoring,id say, best upgrade your OS to the latest,(xp),or as new as you can get.
as for dvd ram,is it a major thing that you need to drag n drop to disc? if not, then just get new software that can burn properly.

Thanks for the response - I have used IMGBurn to create a CD without problems. However, I have tried to use CDBurnerXP Pro to burn a DVD-R - it seemed to work - went through all the writing process and reported success but when I go to the DVD in Windows Explorer tells me DVD is used but doesn't show the data files copied ?

The DVD RAM bit - presumably I need to format the disk ? I just need the DVD rewriter at present for data transfers - so this would be useful.

Apologies if these seem like Mickey Mouse questions - always thought of myself as PC literate but DVD rewriter is completely new to me.
