Couple of years ago I got RF modulator to beat copy protection from recording a store bought VHS to another blank VHS tape. works great.

Now I added a DVD burner and DVD player to the mix, and I don't see it working -- but maybe that's cause the cables are now not set up properly for the DVD burner. I don't know, but, is there any reason why RF modulator would not perform great for beating copy protection from VHS tapes but not from DVDs? are folks using RF modulators to beat the protected DVD's or just using firmware hacks. thanks.

Its called Macrovision. It keeps you from just outputting your DVD signal to something else.

Its hacking it or removing it isn't a very good subject for discussion as the company behind it seems to be on a "lets sue everyone" streak.

There are ways to remove it, but as you will see if you click the link I give its a touchy subject to say the least.

Whats built into your DVD player is a bit more updated then what was in your VCR. Thats why its not working.

    thanks Faustus:
so you think RF modulators don't work for DVD? only VCR?

Only ways to remove it, as you say, are hacks, but only for a handful of recorders like lite on etc. not the other 20 brands?

These Macrovision bullies have no legal right to scaremonger here. the idea that this website cannot link to software is ridiculous. That's like saying you can't link to a copy shop because those printers are capable of making counterfeit money.
