I currently have ULVS 7 & 8 installed because I had some issues with 8 that weren't issues in 7 and vise versa. I guess what I'm looking for is some feedback on version 9. Is it worth upgrading to? Is it stable? What problems have you experienced etc. I downloaded the upgrade for version 8 and had to install it several times and go through all kinds of iterations to get the addins working. In a perfect world I'd like to be able to download the version 9 upgrade and then de-install the previous versions but I'll leave that to the feedback I get here.

Just before Christmas I installed the VS9 upgrade and I'm happy so far. I was surprised the VS9 upgrade left VS8 entact, so you should try the 30 day demo and see what you think.

I was very pleased with VS8. It cured many issues with VS7, especially with productivity. After using VS8 for a year, I've discovered it's limitations and workarounds.

So far VS9 looks great when I do the same things. The multitrim window works even better for example. A huge "small" improvement for me is the ability to delete a capture file from within the program without closing the application first. That was my main peeve with earlier versions.

I'm one of those users that wants 5% of the features to work very well.
Consumer level programs have a wide range of uses and will be used differently by users with different skill levels and expectations. I'm just beginning to explore the differences. I mainly use it for realtime MPeg2 encoding and simple MPeg2 edits. Maybe you should get the demo and see how it works for you.

If there's a specific feature you're looking for let me know and I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the feedback. I had some problems burning to dvd with version 8 which I go around by creating an ISO and burning with Nero. The addins required a lot of customization to get working and I'm not sure I've been able to take advantage of them yet. Can you remove the previous version after performing the upgrade withou causing any problems?

Version 7 required 2 updated dll's under xp with sp2
Version 8 required a large download to fix effect's problem's
    Version 9 seem's fine .

The only reason I have it is for it's ability to convert between different frame rate's ... that's what I use it for most of the time .

    For burning I use imagetool's ..

Tested dvddecryptor the otherday and all went fine .

VS8 and VS9 show up on separate lines under add-remove programs. I haven't uninstalled VS8 yet.

There are several updates for VS9 as well. See this page for all the updates.
