Well, I've been playing around with the newest version and there seems to be a few bugs:
    1. multiplexing feature freezes
    2. recently encoded files are now reported to contain the infamous 'floating decimal point calculation error'

Otherwise, the full version now appears to be available late January 2002 (I can't believe '02 is upon us already) and the price is reported to be 4800 yen ($40 US).

I will (finally) give this version a try on my new XP 1700+

** I've had nothing but lock-ups with all the other versions!!!
** but, I think I've narrowed it down to the VFLAP's setting (the order of
each priority's, that is). So far, it's working for a short while, then finally
locking up my whole system again!! Dam!

Well, let me try this 2.50

That's a very very resonable price.

I hope they take money orders.

Compared to CCE's $4000 US, no doubt. $4000 US is just ******* ridiculous, who would take that seriously?

  8. Hi,

Don't ask me for an explaination because I'm just fiddling with this NEW Wizard thingy-ma-jig.

I'm slowly working it out but's its bloody complicated creating NEW templates to be able to be selected from the wizard.

This is typical unfortunately of the TMPGEnc author, I don't think a Help file and Wizard GUI will be released until the final version is for sale.

  9. Does this new version of TMPGenc give any better quality on VCD encodes than the previous version? OR does it run any faster than the previous version? If not, I think I'll stay with 2.02 as it seems very stable.

  10. Has anyone actually gotten TMPGEnc to work with multiple processors? I've got dual P3 550's and a gig of RAM. It takes 6 hours to encode 1 MPG from an AVI as it is. If I turn on all the multithread options, it starts out and tells me it'll take 2 hours. After about 2 minutes, it spontaneously reboots my machine and locks it up BAD. Help?!

    energy80s, and others. . . see for yourself. . .

here's a sample VCD clip I just did with TMPG v2.50
using XP, after finally getting it to work (i think)
I used the standard VCD template on it.

See if you feel this verison as emproved its VCD quality.
To get clip, go onto Morpheous and look up a or filter for
    video files, ie,
    vhelp-*.*

should get you going, I hope! else try and lookup my location, i think
    I'm Connected as: vhelp@MusicCity
enjoy clip, if you get it.

    I'm going ta bed!!

While Im not advocating software piracy....(yeah right), but anyone with basic PC skills can easily obtain CCE just as easily as TMPG can be obtained. While I havent use the new 2.5, I personally like CCE better than TMPG. Don't get me wrong, TMPG is very good (I use to love it), but having learn to use CCE properly, for me, it does a few things slightly better..

Oh yes, i completely agree with you, when people see a $4000 price tag, they will just go get a pirate copy, at least at $40, some (probably very few) people will buy TMPGEnc

I'd be very VERY interested in seeing what the "full" TMPGEnc does for MPEG-2 compared to CCE... if they've been sitting on serious improvements, and it's comparable, $100 would even be more than reasonable!

I think the only reason they charge for Cinemacraft Encoder is because they were able to sucker about 15 or 20 people to actually pay the $4,000... and they're still living off the original suckers!

By comparison, I think TMPGEnc will be more popular, only $40 for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 compression... it does have MPEG-2 at that price, right?

  21. I encoded a small section of Star Wars Phantom Menace (the POD Race) from the PAL DVD. It was 12m 51s long

To encoded to VCD using standard VCD Pal template but turned Motion Search to Highest Quality (Very Slow).

    With TMPGEnc 2.01 it took 42m 50s

    With TMPGEnc 2.5 it took 49m 10s

I could not see any noticable differences in pic quality between the two identically length files.

    Cheers,
    CM
