I got a new capture card recently the wintv pvr 250. This won't allow me to cap to avi but that's fine since my cpu takes forever to encode anyway. I have a vhs tape that was recorded from satellite about 6 or 7 years ago. The quality of the tape is good except for there is some interference that was recorded onto it. it's just wiggly clear waves that scroll down the screen. It's not really that visible unless you look at text or the edge of something that doesn't move. On the monitor I can see a white band at the right side and a small black line at the left side. These do not appear on the tv. Other than that the color and sound is fine and no bad spots in the tape at all. here is some of the images

Can anyone give me any advice on how to filter this on the fly when recording to dvd thru the pvr 250? also is there a setting in the registry that can crop or convert 4:3 fullscreen to widescreen when recording to dvd? thanks

I'm bumping this from wayyyyy back because I'm gonna dig out this vhs tape and tackle it once again. So does anyone have any ideas on the wavy lines and how to get rid of them with virtualdub? Thanks

  3. The crap at the edges of the picture won't be visible once you burn the video to TV.

The wavey vertical edges can only be fixed with a Time Base Corrector. Either a VCR with a line TBC, or a standalone full frame TBC.
