Morning All,
For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to burn a DVD of stuff on my camcorder, and have been frustrated by 'blocky' output from the camcorder. When I capture, I get horizontal lines of blocks coming and going. See image below:
I don't see this when I play back the tape through the TV. I have tried another camcorder and it is fine, and I have also cleaned the heads on mine.
However, last night I noticed that I could see the blockiness on the camcorder screen when I had the firewire cable plugged in to the camcorder, which would seem to indicate some kind of interference between the firewire cable/card and the camcorder. I have a Canon MV940, the other one which didn't suffer from the problem was a Panasonic.
As I see it, 3 options: my cable is not very good (its a bog standard one, nothing special), the firewire card itself has a problem, my camcorder has a problem. Since one camcorder is OK, I'm inclined to think its my camcorder, but I guess it could be that mine is more sensitive to some kind of interference than the other one.
I see you can get shielded firewire cables - are these any different to normal ones? I've always been a little bit sceptical about cables and connectors that are gold plated and this that and the other..
Has anyone come across anything similar?
Thanks,
Al.
