you won't be able to play NTSC games in it
you can purchase a little black box to go between the X-BOX and the TV to change the PAL signal to NTSC (but I think they're kinda pricey)
perhaps you should sell it and all your games before you move back and once you're home, use the money you got to buy a used/refurbished NTSC machine

I think mod chips allow PAL games to be played in NTSC systems. It probably will work both ways.

  9. check your pms.
theres no difference in ntsc and pal xbox.
only difference is the power outage,so a transformer is all thats needed.

Nice thing about XBOX, it is a Microsoft & PC based system. Just as stated above, you have to change the game region.

IMHO I'd sell the system in the UK and keep the games. Mod a US system and play PAL & NTSC games in it. Don't have to worry about a transformer and discs are easier to transport on person. SOme people I know have had problems with electronics going through customs. They got their stuff, but it caused delays. I'm sure it doesn't happen to everyone, but I've never had any good experience myself with customs either. I still have never gotten a box with my wife's curling iron, a microcassette recorder, a pillow, A pair of new (and expensive) shoes, CD PLayer & peripherals, and a bunch of other small things. Our Address was on everyside of the box too. It was 6 months until we got my wifes make-up bag. This was just from a visit to Australia a few years back.
